I had some great new brews yesterday. The Philadelphia, PA area is exploding with  start-up breweries/brewpubs - probably because Philly Beer Week is a big stimulus to the beer community.  Philly Beer Week is a 10-day event, held in June (June 1-10 in 2012) that presents over 1,000 events in that 10-day period. But I digress. At the War of the Worts Homebrew Competition, several new commercial breweries showcased their beers:  Free Will Brewing of Perkasie, PA; Naked Brewing Company; Cabinet Artisanal Brewhouse of Arlington, VA (brewers for The Farmer's Cabinet in Philly); Forest & Main Brewery & Pub, Ambler, PA; Round Guys Brewing of Lansdale, PA; Prism Brewing of North Wales, PA; and I hope I haven't missed anyone!  Not present but soon also opening in the area is Tired Hands Brewing Company in Ardmore, PA.  I also hear Blue Dog in Lansdale is going to convert from a beer bar to a brewpub.  What's in your region?

We have No Label out west in Katy (you can follow them on BeerLovers here), toward the north we have Southern Star in Conroe; just on the northwest side of town we have Karbach; and just north of downtown resides the venerable Saint Arnold.   Today I was able to locate Buffalo Bayou Brewing, and in the coming months we should be seeing two more (at least): 8th Wonder and Yard Sale Brewing. Scott, just finished reading the article on Rodeo Clown on the site. The beer is killer, it's a bit more robust than most IPAs which makes it all the better.

They are all quite different. Some of the are more American in their use of hops whilst others are more British. It was quite some time since I got a proper IPA as I moved to France in work a couple of years ago and the beer culture here is quite different. They have a completely different range of types of beer here. Some of the ones I listed are Swedish (Oppigårds, Nøgne Ø (this one is Norwegian I believe) Mohawk, Jämtlands, Nils Oscar) which are a mixture of British and American style. Whilst Twisted Thistle is British and Flying Dog, Stone and Sierra Nevada are American in style. The Scandinavian beer might be quite difficult to get hold of them. I like Oppigårds' work. They are excellent at what they do, so is the Jämtlands IPA. Stone often deliver great beer as well, and the fruitiness of Sierra Nevada's beer is delightful. As you can imagine I am longing back to Sweden where I can get hold of some proper ale. Read less

I recall you having mentioned Jamtlands IPA previously, but I haven't had any luck finding it locally. Of those on your list, what would you consider to be the top three?
