What are your thoughts regarding beer?
Beer is one of the greatest creations of man, or should I say “woman.” We foxes were really the ones who came up with the idea, (at least we’ll happily take the credit.). While all the hunters were out chasing down MEAT, we foxes were observing animals and bees, sucking up the juice of fermented fruit, getting all woozy. We made some nifty bowls out of rocks and shells for the grains we gathered. It rained. It fermented. It smelled good. We tasted it and got all relaxed … then shared it with those hunters when they returned with juicy carcasses. Celebration time!!! It’s been going on for 10,000 years. How many other things have endured this long? I don’t see any dinosaur meat.
What is your favorite place to drink beer?
I really dig tasting beers with people who love beer, whether it is in their beer cellar, homebrew cellar, cold room, back bar, a festival, the judges table, with dinner, or at the brewery, fresh from the fermenter. When it’s late at night and a beerlover says, “Hey, I have something special for you to taste,” I think that rocks. Whether it’s in Anchorage, Scottsdale, New York, Montreal or London, drinking with a beer lover … or a bunch of beer lovers, makes this Beer Fox all bushy tailed.
Are you a homebrewer?
I am not a homebrewer.
What are your thoughts regarding homebrewing?
I’ll leave that to the experts. I’ve brewed at a commercial brewery with a world class brewer, and … let’s face it … I raked the spent grain out of the mash tun so I could feel like a brewer! Yes! And I’ve been in the hops room where I felt like a cat that’s been let loose in a treasure chest of catnip. Rrrrowrrrllll!!! None of this makes me a homebrewer, but it makes me have a great appreciation of those who do brew. I love judging homebrew competitions and commercial competitions. I have a great appreciation and respect for Jimmy Carter who legalized homebrewing in the USA. Homebrewing stimulates the craft beer community. So many great homebrewers have turned professional, and are an inspiration for those of us who love beer.
What do you like most about BeerLovers.com?
I love being able to connect with the worldwide beer community – pros, homebrewers, beer appreciators. It is well rounded and offers a great platform for growth. It’s multi-dimensional. I know it’s new, but it’s not just about beer reviews; it’s not just someone’s bloggy opinion, it’s not just about homebrewing. It has articles that are interesting and informative, provides connections with others for expanding knowledge of homebrewing, food and beer, bars, what’s on tap, where to find special beers, … the list goes on and on. Get your friends to join – we can make it a great place to connect.
